The Walthour family carries with it a proud tradition of American cycling. Identical twins Bobby Walthour Sr. and Jimmy Walthour Sr. were born on January 1, 1878. Both had sons...Bobby Jr. and Jimmy Jr.
Cousins Bobby Walthour Jr. and Jimmy Walthour Jr. went on to become professional cyclists during the 1920s and 1930s when six-day racing in the United States was in its heyday. Both had extremely successful careers. Jimmy was inducted into the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame in 2008 and Bobby Jr. will be inducted in 2011, on November 5!!
Today, the tradition continues. Bobby Walthour IV has competed professionally -and drug free- in cycling for 23 years. Walthour has had hundreds of victories, including National Championships. At 43 years young, Walthour, with his teammate Michael Hulse, took bronze medals at the U.S.National Tandem Sprint Championship on July 31, 2009. In true Walthour fashion, Bobby IV rode with two herniated disks in his neck. Bobby owns and opperates Rocket Fitness in Carmel, CA.
